Default Confidential Air Force List - Covering Late WW2 / late 1940s, anyone got a Copy?

    Hello

It seems there is an 'Air Force List' and also a 'Confidential Air Force List' from 1939?

    Several A.F.L.s are on N.L. of Scotland online, 1938, 1940, 1942 and 1945 etc.

Anyone have a Confidential copy handy 1943 to 1948?

    Thanks
    Mark

    Hello Paul

It seems there is more detail? Perhaps someone has compared an ordinary List with a Confidential List?

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/h...rce-personnel/

    4.1
"From 1939 there is also the Confidential Air Force List, similar to the standard Air Force List but often with slightly more detail on the specifics of an officer’s duties. Search it in the following sets of documents:

for April 1939 to 1945 in AIR 10/3814-3840
    for 1946 to 1950 in AIR 10/5237-5256
    for 1951 to 1953 in AIR 10/5413-5421
    for 1954 in AIR 10/5581-5582"

    Regards Mark

    Hi Paul,

As with all wartime periodicals it went through a number of changes as time went on but essentially.

1939 Where serving lists for all officers removed from normal AFL but duplicate document including the where serving lists published as Confidential Air Force List

1940 With expansion of officer numbers Confidential Air Force List where serving reduced to only show names in establishment posts for Squadrons and above

    eg CO, adjutant, flight leaders

post 1940 progressive reduction in named posts in Squadrons

Best use is if you are looking for a establishment post in Group or above but not any help for squadron/flight personnel list.

This is an example of the Where Serving Page from the May 1939 Confidential List for the AAF Squadrons

    http://www.rafaircraftaccidents.com/...AFL_03 020.jpg

You can see that this detail is missing from the May 39 AFL from the NLS

    Regards
    Ross

    Ross

    Thanks for the explanation..

    very interesting

I think visibility of a late 1939 Confidential Air Force List possibly early 1940 would help me with where a couple of my missing bailouts were serving

    MALCOM,

I have sent you a Private Email via this website but it cannot be sent due to your inbox being FULL Can you empty it please or reply to me privately as a I have a query to ask you about Confidential Air Force List contents for a WW1 pilot with MC who rejoined the RAF from Feb 1939 to 16 Jan 1942 and worked in an Air Ministry dept for the Dep Chief of the Air Staff - I am trying to find what his WW2 work was.
