    Default L D Nickel R199437

I am trying to find out the full name of L D Nickel R199437, whom I beleive to be Canadian.
He was a rear gunner with 35 squadron in 1944.

    My thanks in advance.

Thanks Simon, that looks like the man. I have his serial number from the Battle Ordeer dated 23/6/194 when he is shown as a sergeant. The serial number may well have changed with his commission.Perhaps someone can confirm that Canadians started with 'R' number then changed to 'J'' number on commission.

In the RCAF, Paul, the service number changed from an R-prefix to a J-prefix upon commission.

Thanks Dave, I didn't know if it followed the 'English' convention!!

Next is to carry out same exercise for the Australian members of the same crew, captained by RP Roberts A 12439.

According to the London Gazette he was Roy Patrick Rogers, a Flying Officer serving with No.35 Sqn when awarded the D.F.C. On retirement in 1962 his service number was O237. See http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/Veteran.as...eranId=1075094 and https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...t/471/data.pdf

    Hello

I think Vial may have been Allan ? I've been in contact with an Allan Vial about 20 years ago, likely to be him.

http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Searc...msListing.aspx shows he was Allan John, and his service file has been digitised.

    http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/Searc...5258798&isAv=N for John Francis Marshall

    Joss,

Afraid, not as simple as that!

    For Vial:

    Go to: http://naa12.naa.gov.au/Scripts/SuggestLogon.asp
    Enter 417912 in Keywords box.
Click on Digitised item or PDF symbol.

Repeat process for Marshall, but add 416445 in Keywords box, instead of 417912.

Paul, Depending on how much you are prepared to spend in time, effort & money - the following is available on Vial:

    https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/MSS1996/

There is this, as well (contains some errors):
