    Default Miles Martinet Accident at RAF Morpeth 1943

    Can anyone please help with details of an accident to a 4AGS Miles Martinet which occurred in Mid 1943 at RAF Morpeth whilst the aircraft was taxiing on the ground. The pilot is believed to be Sgt Rudolf Marczak

    Please find detailed below my notes on what I believe is your incident?

    HN910 P & Powis 1690/ C 23 (c) Mercury XXX 09.10.42 20 M.U., Aston Down; 30.10.42 4 A.G.S., Morpeth; 24.01.43 Flying Accident Cat B damage, 4 A.G.S., Morpeth aircrafts brakes failed whilst taxying on a slope and struck parked Martinet HN910. Pilot Sgt MARCZAK, Rudolf (783143) Polish Uninjured. Accident time 15.30, Duty Taxying; Unknown date of repair; 18.07.43 8 A.G.S., Evanton; 30.05.44 2 A.G.S., Dalcross; 13.05.45 12 M.U., Kirkbride; 10.09.45 24 A.P.C., Westerland (Sylt); 27.9.45 24 A.P.C., Sylt; 17.07.46 24 A.P.C., Sylt disbands; 17.07.46 Assumed A.P.S., Sylt; 13.09.46 151 Repair Unit, Luneburg return confirms RAF Sylt; 30.08.47 Cat E2

    From the 4 AGS ORB,
    January 24 - Martinet aircraft Nos.HB.132 and HN910 involved in taxying accident causing damage to both aircraft. Martinet H.N.910 was being taxyed from dispersal to blister hanger when brakes failed. The aircraft continued to run down a slope and collided with Martinet HB.132 {sic}.

    No mention of the pilot/s involved.

    There were six (6) martinet accidents recorded in the 4AGS ORB for 1943.
    24th Jan
    2nd Feb
    15th Aug
    Sept (no date given)
    13th Nov
    24th Dec

    None of the entries mention MARCZAK

    Many thanks to both of you for your prompt answers. Looks like I was wrong about the time (mid-1943) but that is actually beneficial because my records suggested that he was elsewhere at that time.

    For clarity and to correct an error in my earlier post the Martinet that was struck by HN910 was HP132 as my notes below:

    HP132 P& Powis 1690 / C 23 (c) Mercury XXX 08.12.42 48 M.U., Hawarden; 14.12.42 4 A.G.S., Morpeth; 24.01.43 Flying Accident Cat B damage, 4 A.G.S., Morpeth aircraft stationary when struck my Martinet HN910. Accident time 15.30, Duty Taxying; 03.02.43 Repaired in Works, Phillips & Powis; 06.03.43 Awaiting Collection; 11.03.43 1 A.G.S., Pembrey; 21.06.45 1 A.G.S., Pembrey disbands; 22.06.45 39 M.U., Colerne; 21.03.46 39 M.U., Colerne Home Census; 28.04.49 S.O.C. Unit fire practice.

    Just to confirm the other entries, I have the following in my records:

    Unoccupied
    Aircraft was parked when it was struck by Martinet HN910 at Morpeth.
