    Default PoW Advice required

    Hi.

I have been given the unenviable task of finding the Christian names of over 200 PoW's for a forth coming memorial.

Can anyone with experience please advice on the best method to tackle this project, I have their service numbers, PoW Camps etc etc.

    TIA

As a suggestion, if you can publish the names and any information that you have on them on the forum (perhaps 10 posts, each with 20 names on) I, for one, would be happy to try and chip in. We may have to resort to the POW Questionnaires for any that we get stuck on.

    Regards

    Main areas of research:

    - CA Butler and the loss of Lancaster ME334 (http://rafww2butler.wordpress.com/ )
    - Aircrew Training (Basic / Trade / Operational / Continuation / Conversion)
    - The History of No. 35 Squadron (1916 - 1982) (https://35squadron.wordpress.com/)

[Always looking for copies of original documents / photographs etc relating to these subjects]

    Hi Pete,

    Trust your well mate.

I did consider that, but its a bit of an ask, and not sure if the mods would approve. I visited the NA the other week looking for POW Questionnaires after a friend who visits this site regularly tried to locate a few on my behalf. My visit did not turn up what I wanted. BUT, I did locate some real gems in the Air 81.

    Cheers

post them to the 'data projects and reference' forum

    http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/for...-and-Reference

Do you have the mens names and service numbers, or just names?

    Don't forget this link:
    http://www.rafcommands.com/old-site/air-force-pows/

Might link names to service numbers to ease the search, and then search within the forum and archives
    http://www.rafcommands.com/search/

    Some might already be mentioned.

    Hello

I'd go along Pete's suggestion, if the mods agree.

Like Nick I have quite a large number of PoW questionnaires, but I have already sent you the 218 Squadron airmen I had in stock. I can also send an excel spreadsheet with what I have, so you can compare with your own list of "wanted".

    Hi All,

Thank you for your help with this project, I have managed to whittle the figure to about 66, all NCO's. I am awaiting confirmation from Jagan to post the list.

    Thank you all again.

Steve, you are very considerate about posting too many threads.

i like Pete's suggestion on the forum of breaking the names up into ten different threads with 20 names each... or something of that sort. 66 names across four to five threads would be great. Maybe you can come up with a common theme for each thread - perhaps based on year of capture, or type of operations.command they belong to.. etc

    Feel free to post away.
