    Default Research on Halifax L9527

    Linked with: http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...uf-35-squadron

    Does anyone have:

    - the posting in date (and/or)
    - details of the operational sorties carried out by (and/or)
    - the crews that flew with

Clarence Arthur Godwin [745859] whilst he was with No. 77 Squadron (ie before his posting to No. 35 Squadron in February 1941)?

I would also like similar information for AG Eperon whilst he was with No. 102 Squadron (ie before his posting to No. 35 Squadron in March 1941). I have also seen that he was a crew member of Whitley T4289 which ditched in December 1940 and that he was later involved in a mid-air collision, so any details on these incidents would be helpful.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Regards

    Pete

Copies would be brilliant, but I don't know when he was posted to No. 102 Squadron, so you may have to work backwards

Does anyone have the details of the 15 operational sorties flown by EOT Balcomb whilst with No. 78 Squadron?

I am aware that he baled out of Whitley T4204 on 1st / 2nd January 1941 but have no further details on other operations

Any help would be much appreciated

    Regards

    Pete

    Pete

As you have mentioned Sgt Balcomb bailed out near Doncaster when the engines failed due to icing; PO Bates was killed whilst parachuting.

Prior to this he flew the following ops with 78 Sqn

    28 12 40 Boulogne Shipping & Barges
    08 12 40 Bordeux Submarines
    19 11 40 Rhurland Oil refinery
    05 11 40 Italy no target bombed
    27 10 40 Texel airfield
    26 10 40 Bombs jettisoned near Amsterdam
16 10 40 Ops aborted due to engine failure
    12 10 40 Wilhelmshaven
    08 10 40 Berlin
    01 10 40 Sterkrade - oil refinery
    12 09 40 Bremen
I can't find any more at the moment but will check other records later.

    Re: Balcomb

Thanks for the information; I will incorporate the details into my findings and pass them on to the organisers of the commemoration service. I understand that he undertook some operations during 1941 so this may account for the inconsistency between your list and the total that I have been given

I will also add the details of the remaining crew members to see if anyone has any pre No 35 Squadron details on these; they are:

    - Sidney Harry James Shirley (804422)
    - Reginald Thomas Rudlin (912084)
    - Greville Gascoyne Esnouf [929408]

    Regards (and thanks again)

    Pete
