    Default Halifax L9500 TL H - Crew 24 July 1941

    Hello all,

Just a quick note in respect of the following 35 Squadron crew who took part in a daylight raid on the Scharnhorst on 24 July 1941.

    My grandfather was captain of the aircraft and I am in the process of trying to track down any relatives / photographs of other crew members as part of my research;

    F/O P.S James (Captain)
    Sgt. Scott (2nd pilot)
    Sgt. K.R Sewell (Navigator) 751350
Flt Sgt. J.J Rogers (Wireless Op) 966861
Sgt. J.A.A Cox (Front Air Gunner) 648868
Sgt. M.A Sachs (Rear Air Gunner)
Sgt. H.T McQuigg (Flight Engineer) 575079

Sadly, with the exception of Mark Sachs, Sgt Scott and my grandfather (who had been posted to a conversion flight), all were lost on 14 August 1941 during a raid to Magdeburg and are buried in the Reichswald forest cemetery.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

    Many thanks all.

    Kind regards,

    James

    Hello, and welcome James,

A bit of background for the troops:

Note the error under Operations and remarks: 3/2/40 Whitley 5 P4937. Should read 3/4 January 1941

I can't help with the relative search, but I will see if I have added any information on this crew to my archives since I documented their time with No 35 Squadron for you a couple of years ago.

    Regards

    Pete
