Default 2221452 Sgt Frank WB Norris RAFVR

    Good evening guys,

Swindonian Sgt Frank Norris was a member of the aircrew of Halifax JD462, part of 1658 Operational Conversion Unit RAF which was lost on exercise over the North Sea on 5th June 1944. The aircraft took off from RAF Riccall on its final mission. He has no known grave.

I'm keen to find out as much as I can about Frank's service history and as much as I can about Halifax JD462.

I have managed to find a number of postings dating from 2002 on the predecessor RAF Commands website which relate to Frank.

A guy called Ludovic Louis stated that he thought that Frank was the occupant of an unidentified grave in Branville, Normandy. Sadly, his e-mail address is no longer recognised. I am wondering if there has been any update in the intervening period?

Can anyone help me with this, please?

Thanks so much for that, Col. Some great detail there on what happened.

On a personal note, Frank's mother and my paternal grandmother were sisters.

In order to find out about Frank's service history, is there a particular source which you would recommend?

    Hello Noel Ponting,

I was wondering if you had had any luck in finding out more about Frank William Bates Norris. He was my Great Uncle (my grandmother's brother) and I am keen to find out as much as I can. I know this is an old thread so might not make its way to you. There was a link posted after your message by a Col. Bruggy which linked to the Australian memorial website but the link is old so I cannot see what the original page was.

Here's hoping you receive this and can assist me.

    Many thanks
    Tory

    Hello Col. Bruggy,

I know this reply was a long time ago but I wonder if you can remember what the web address was linking to (it has expired). It is related to my Great Uncle Frank William Bates Norris and I am keen to find out as much as I can about him.

    I hope you can help.
    Thanks

    Hi,

Thank you so much for this. It has really helped to fill in the blanks. We knew he was killed on a training flight but this helps to answer how it happened. So sad.

    Thank you again.
