HUGHES, Roderick Charles - seems he's yet another victim of the rail crash at Bourne End on September 30th. The Daily Record of October 2nd reports: "Lying also in hospital is Sergeant Roderick Hughes, of the Isle of Mull, who is quite seriously ill."

Stirling LJ622 crashed at Tockwith, Yorkshire. Those who died are:

AUSTRALIA.

136290 LAC Eric James SMITH RAAF.

On 29 September, 1945, LAC (Flight Mechanic) E J SMITH RAAF(of No.12 Sqn RAAF), attached to RAAF Station Darwin, was at the refuelling section adjacent to the Control Tower at Darwin, and was checking a semi-trailer refuelling tanker for a pump fault. At approx 1615 hours, an explosion occurred, and LAC Smith was extensively burnt, The tanker was extensively damaged by fire. LAC Smith was admitted to No.1 Medical Receiving Station, where he died of his injuries on 9 October, 1945.
