AUSTRALIA _ RICHARDSON, John Francis - LAC - 59953 - RAAF.

LAC Richardson was the victim of a hit-and-run driver. The motor-cycle, on which he was a pillion passenger, was struck head-on by a stolen army truck in the Melbourne suburb of Caulfield. The driver of the army truck vanished after escaping from the overturned vehicle. The other airman on the motor-cycle, 27788 Cpl Ronald Leslie HUBBARD RAAF, sustained serious injuries, but survived.

CAYGILL, Frank - the National Probate Calendar states that he died at the R.A.F. Hospital, Rauceby, Lincolnshire.

FISH, Herbert James - the National Probate Calendar states that he died "on war service." He is listed on a family tree on ancestry.co.uk which states that he died in Copenhagen...?

Airman's Death Follows Rutland Aerodrome Accident
RAUCEBY R.A.F. HOSPITAL AUTHORITIES CRITICISED BY CORONER Tragedy Which Might Have Been Registered as "Natural Causes” CONDUCTING an inquest Rauoeby on the death of an airman following injuries received in a Rutland aerodrome road accident, the Sleaford coroner. Mr. E. C. Deal, made some strong criticism of the action of the authorities at the R.A.F. Hospital. Rauceby. in seeking to have the death registered in the same way as a death from natural causes.

The inquest was on L/A/C’ Prank Caygill. Hareholme. Rossendale. Lancs., who fell off the back of lorry at Woolfox Lodge, on the Great Northroad. He sustained a fractured skull, and died shortly after admission to Rauceby RAF. Hospital.

L A Ernest William Hill said that he sat in the cab with the driver the lorry when it left a site at Woolfox Lodge to go another site. Six other airmen. Including Caygill. were riding on the beck of the vehicle, which was loaded with five empty packing cases. On the way the driver took a wrong turning and when witness called his attention this he immediately swung to the right very suddenly. The driver gave no warning of this. The speed was about 15 to 20 m.p.h. He heard a shout and the driver stopped straightaway. Caygill was found lying unconscious on the road behind the lorry.

The coroner: You see it is no means a natural death. Witness continued that before turning he reduced speed and the turn was normal. “There was no need for anyone fall off. provided he was sitting down.” In his summing up. the coroner said that there was no evidence before him as to whether Caygill was sitting down or not He attributed no blame to Davies, and returned a verdict of “accidental death.

he died in October 1945 in Copenhagen he was at Castrup and died of a burst appendix

Fish spent the entire war in the Far East. He was with 62 Sqn in Malaya but made it to India. In india he commanded No22 AACU for a couple of years, before his repatriation home.

Fell from 67 fett level of Radio Wave Propagation Tower at Suffield, Alberta, while working thereon Admitted to Brooks Minicipal Hospital, Alberta, on the 16th day of October 1945. Died Brooks Minicipal Hospital on 19th October 1945.
Cause of death: Shock. Concussion of the brain, rupture of liver and right kidney. Fracture of the right llium, right ribs with damage to right lung. Terminal Pneumonia.

Wing Commander James Fish at Kastrup Airport.

He died at Sundby Hospital (Copenhagen) Denmark, arrived to late at hospital with an appendicitis. A surgical operation failed and he died of peritonitis.

His wife arrived by plane from England, stayed with him the last hours.

On 19 October, 1945, Cpl (Fitter Armourer) Arthur Laurence STOBBS RAAF (of No.2 Aircraft Depot, Forest Hill via Wagga), was accidentally killed while explaining the mechanism of a Browning machine gun.
