I believe the above was killed during an operation on or about 1/7/44, possibly 10 squadron, I would be pleased to hear of any information regarding the raid and of course any other info relating to Gordon Seymour Lind, I am aware that he is buried in Poix De Picardie and given the date assume a raid connected with the landings or mybe a raid on V rocket bases.

    Hi David

W Chorley, Bomber Command Losses Vol 5,gives the loss of HalifaxIII MZ584,ZA-V,10 Sqn, 1/7/44, to flak whilst attacking a V1 Site at St Martin, the A/C came down at la Montagne 6 mls from Neufchatel. All but 1 of the crew were killed and the crew list includes Sgt G S Lind in a position that seems to show that he was the W/Op.

    Hello, and Welcome,

Can you tell us why you mention "Crew LM717 "W"? Are you referring to No.10 Squadron Halifax LW717:ZA-W, which was lost on 28/29-6-1944 (BCL5/306)?

    Col.

Could be a mistake on my part. Information was copied from website http://www.102ceylonsquadron.co.uk/memDerrickSykes.html

The Halifax lost on 1.07.44 (the one I refer to below) had the week before released it's bomb-load onto a Halifax flying below, that led to the loss of a further aircraft and 14 aircrew.

My main aim is to initiate contact with the relatives of the aircrew lost during the mission.

I understand that a week before their final mission, in a tragic accident, they had released their bomb-load upon a fellow Halifax that blew up, taking another bomber with it, all 14 lives lost.
