    Alain, Bonjour,

Thomas "Tommy" Charles Godwin (5 November 1920 – 3 November 2012) Godwin was an apprentice electrician in a Reserved Occupation during the war, working for BSA (Wiki). BSA manufactured a wide variety of weapons and equipment for the Forces. No mention of him being in the RAF. Have not checked AIR 78.

    Alain, and Peter

There are two cycling Tommy Godwins - Thomas Edward Godwin, born 1912, and Thomas Charles Godwin, born 1920:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_...t_born_1912%29

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_...t_born_1920%29

The former is the one I think Alain means - his RAF career is mentioned, very briefly, here:

    http://www.tommygodwin.com/the-man/

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-17730428

There's a Thoms Edward Godwin, service number 970174, in AIR 78. No Thomas Charles Godwin in AIR 78 as far as I can see.

    Regards

    Simon

    Bonjour Peter and Simon,

yes it is well Thomas Edward Godwin born in 1912.... what man !!I just learn that his record has been won by an american just now, but how to compare ??? Godwin had not a carbon bike, not access to GPS , not to meteo broadcast, and had not the food available as now ... so his record is still there ! still wondering where he spent his time in RAF ?? a RAF flying cyclist ??
