Default F/Lt Leslie Falgate DFC, 76 Sqn

    Hello everyone

I've been revisiting my notes on local airmen, and came across Flight Lieutenant Leslie Falgate, 169345, D.F.C., from South Moor, Stanley, County Durham.

Flight Magazine of April 20th 1944 records his D.F.C. award and his unit as 76 Squadron, but the London Gazette is, as per usual, proving more troublesome and I can't find his award mentioned there at all. Can anyone help with a possible citation? Or is there anyone with knowledge of 76 Squadron who may be able to help?

He died on April 9th 1946, registered Durham South East, and the National Probate Calendar states that he died 'on war service' - I'm guessing this means he died either in an accident, or could it be the result of injuries received whilst on active service?

    Many thanks,

    Regards

    Simon

Many thanks indeed for that Col - I did try the search function on the LG website, but it came up with absolutely zero.

Listed in Casualty Communique number 602 in Flight Magazine 19 Sept 1946 as Died on Active Service.
This will include illness and accident.

Durham South Eastern would probably be in or near RAF Middleton St George. He did not die at home - I live in the same town and that is considered North West Durham.

He, apparently, did die in his home town so I cannot explain the registration which is about 40 miles away from there.

This is what I have been able to find:

Leslie Falgate was born in 1920 to Martha Ann Sanders, age 31, and John Charles Herbert Falgate, age 32 in Stanley Co Durham. He died April 9th 1946 when he was 26 years old in Stanley.
