    Default Training Crash July 1951

Please forgive basic information all I have is an indication that a military service crash reputably took place on or immediately around 21 July 1951 during a training flight from Middle Wallop.

Obviously Middle Wallop indicates this to possibly be an Army AOP related incident which may not assist but I hope it is ok to post onto the wealth of expertise on the RAF Commands Forum.

The British Newspaper searches I have made have disclosed nothing and the internet searches likewise.

Halley's book 'Broken Wings' has the following possible/probable:

July 21st 1951 - Auster AOP.5 TJ508 of AOP School, crashed after hitting power cables during low flying exercise, crashed and caught fire, pilot killed. Location is given as 'near Middle Wallop'.

EDIT - the Portsmouth Evening News of July 21st 1951 reports the crash:

    Plane Crashes
An Auster aircraft crashed and burst into flames on the Winchester-Andover road today. The pilot was killed. Firemen from Winchester and Sutton Scotney went to the scene, also ambulances from Winchester.

Most certainly this is the incident, thank you for finding it for me. I must review my ability on the Newspaper Library searches as you clearly have mastered it !
    Thank you once again.

The pilot's name was given as JJ Mansfield in The Times.
