    Hi Gents,

    I have a member of 218 Squadron washed ashore near kmp18, does anyone know where this refers to? I know it is the Netherlands but that's it !

    Any help appreciated.

    Could the kmp be some sort of an abbrev of Kampen ?

    Hi Alan,

    Just replied Steve in a PM. You were very close: kmp is indeed an abbreviation (however phonetically it may sound as if it is a full word in Dutch) of 'kilometerpaal/strandpaal' = kilometre pole/beach pole. The poles were numbered for reference purposes and as there is one kilometre between each beach pole, kmp 18 is 18 kilometres from the starting point.
