Default Airborne Lifeboat Drop July 26th 1943

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can let me know what Hudson squadrons were equipped with the Airborne Lifeboat system, July 1943.

On July 26th 1943 a 218 Squadron crew while on a ASR flight witnessed a RAF Hudson drop a airborne lifeboat close to a ditched B17.

Trying to determine the Hudson unit, and the Yank B17.

    TIA

279 Sqn rescued several B-17s on that day - their biggest day to date.

B-17 from 327th BS 65 miles north of Ameland, in the afternoon
    B-17 - Destiny's Tot - from 322nd BS 91st BG (423119) 16 miles north-north-east of Cromer, around 1800
B-17 from 410th BS 94th BG near Ameland, sighted by U/279 at 1839
