Default 156 Squadron PORs - Sgt Arthur Green 1851219

    Afternoon all,

Does anyone have the PORs for 156 Squadron for June 1944? I'm currently looking into Sgt Arthur Green 1851219, flight engineer in Sqn/Ldr Hemmings crew on the night of the 12th/13th of August 1944 when ND444 "GT-G" was lost against Russelsheim.

He flew his first operation on the 11th of June 1944, so I'm assuming he was posted to 156 Squadron in late May or early June 1944. I'd like to know the following please, if anyone can help me: -

1 - When, and where from, did Sgt Green arrive with 156 Squadron?

2 - Does anyone know the circumstances of the loss of ND444?

I have the 156 Squadron ORB and appendices, but neither of them contain the PORs. The 156 Squadron website offers no clues.

Many thanks for any information anyone can give,

    Greg

    Hi Greg,

It appears that Sgt. Green's log book is currently for sale on eBay. Maybe you could contact the seller for the details.

    Cheers,

    Russ

    Hi Russ,

Yes, I know, I'm in contact with the seller. I'm trying to ascertain if Sgt. Green was ex-1 Group.

The 156 Squadron Form 540 for May shows "F/L G.C. Hemmings and crew ex 582 Squadron" posted into 156 on May 14/44. The 582 ORB shows that crew being posted both in and out of that squadron on the 14th but it doesn't say where they were posted in from.
