    Default Anson DJ565

On 12th November 1943 Anson DJ565 of 7 OTU was on a training flight from Limavady, Northern Ireland and ditched in the Irish Sea. The crew were picked up by a passing tramp steamer. Would anybody have access to 7 OTU ORB for this date or have any knowledge of this incident/crew. There is no mention of this incident in “Chorley OTU 1940-47 ”.

    Kind regards,

    Stevie

Sgt W R McQueen, 531243 ditched the Anson in approx position 53 56N 005 10 W while on transit after the Starboard engine failed and the port engine subsequently lost power. No injury to crew who were picked up by steamer.

Although mentioned in the ORB there is no crew detail given and the RNLI Rescue Records for Port Erin, IoM do not record the Steamer name.

As No.7 OTu was under the control of No.17 Group, Coastal Command the loss is not recorded by Chorley.
