Default 611 Sqdn ORB for Nov., 1941...

Spitfire Mk IIb P8315 is recorded as having a landing accident when with the above squadron at Drem on 29/11/41. Trouble is the same aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision near Ternhill on 7/4/41, crashed, and was (reportedly) SOC on 21/4/41.

I believe the 611 Sqdn Spit. was actually P8135 which was with 611 from 12/11/41.

Can anyone with a copy of the 611 ORB for November 1941 look for a reference to a Spitfire crash-landing on the 29th please, and if so what was the s/n of the aircraft ?

Thanks in advance and best wishes for 2015.

Not from the ORB but F1180

    29/11/41
    P8315 R(B) P/O J D Marsh RCAF J/4564

    No F1180 exists for No.611 Sqn 7/4/41

    Thanks Ross,

P8315 was with 24 MU when it collided with Hurricane Z2318 in the Ternhill circuit on 7/4/41. Both aircraft crashed and both pilots lost their lives.
The Spitfire was declared Cat. E and written off the books on 21/4/41.
There is no indication, as far as I can tell, that P8315 was repaired and issued to a squadron.

    Regards,

Thanks Ian for the additional information.

It looks as if the Spitfire that crash-landed at Drem on 29/11/41 was P8135.

Did P8315 R(B) P/O J D Marsh RCAF J/4564 survive the crash? If so, what became of him afterwards?

    Thanks,

    Roger
