Looking for info on my grandad pilot officer Gerald G P Hine

Hello I'm currently looking for info on my grandad Gerald George Percy Hine he ranked to pilot officer service number 1585123 he was in37 squadron in 1944 and became pow when his wellington was shot down over Europe he ended up I. Stalag luft 4 his rank then was sergeant he was 19 he took part in the death march I was wondering if anyone out there knows him or knew off him have any pictures or can name any of the other 5 crew who went down with him on I believe the 26 June 1944. My grandad joined the raf at 16 and served 22 years

Gina, Hi,
You do really need to obtain G. G. P. Hine's RAF Service Record. Follow the instructions at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/requests...ervice-records. It will cost you £30 and take a couple of months to arrive. It will be full of RAF Acronyms and abbreviations. There are many on this forum who can help you decipher them.

That second LG entry is precisely why it is vital to obtain his Service Record. It is a non-standard way of ending a period of Commissioned Service. The Service Record will, likely, give some indication as to where whatever caused it was actually located. If it was an RAF Station then the records for that Station can be chased up! It might, however, be a Civil matter. In which case there might be Court Records, or Local Paper accounts, to be found and consulted.

1585123 is in the Block 1425001-1649900 (various Centres Apr 1941-Oct 1941). So Enlisted at age 16 – which checks!

37 Sqn spent most of WW2 (after he had Enlisted!) in/around the Med. Wellingtons were phased out for Liberators between Oct-Dec 1944 (RAFWEB)

Thanks Peter I actually wrote to the raf and have recieved some photocopies from them of my grandad ther quite difficult to read and understand but I'm slowly getting there he did end up in Singapore for a while and akitiria in Cyprus and a lot of bases in the British Isles thanks for your info and help its so appreciated
