Default Patrick Aloysius Reel Corporal 1057362 (moved)

    Hi All
I am currently researching the St Alban's Church WW2 memorial in Denaby.
One man on this memorial is Patrick Aloysius Reel. Apart from the entry on the CWGC website, I have found no further information on this ma.
I have access to Ancestry but found nothing here.
Does anyone have any further information on this man?
    Regards
    John

    John, Hi,
1057362 is in the Enlisted Number Block 935000-1149977. This was allocated at Cardington and/or Padgate in Sep 1939. IF (and it's a big 'if'!!) he was 18 when he Enlisted then his Birth Reg (E&W) should have been around 1921. I get nothing also. But, one of my sites is indicating that the 'Reel's' were Isle of Man! Give it a try!

The CWGC entry has him aged 26 when he died in 1945. He has been mentioned here before, in Alex Smart's continuation of the 'Unaccounted Airmen' series:

    Hi Smon, Peter
Thanks for your replies, I had seen that Patrick had been mentioned before but this entry has taken me no further forward.

    Hello John,

You enquire about RAF enlistment blocks. On this site (rafcommands), you can consult the following: http://www.rafcommands.com/reference...rvice-numbers/ . But be warned, there are omissions in that listing, ie; Peter (Resmoroh), quotes 965000-1149977 - Sep 1939 - Cardington. In actual fact, this can be broken down even further: 979001-1149977 - UK enlistments, Cardington and Padington - February-August 1940.

I suggest you get hold of a copy of :

    Aces High Volume 2.
    Shores,Christopher.
    London:Grub Street,1999.
    pp.13-19

The above contains a detailed listing of RAF serial allocations, and explains their usage.

His service number indicates an enlistment in June 1940, however, he may have had deferred service, so only his service records will confirm this.

According to the Overseas BMD Register Cpl Reel was on strength of 'HQ Unit Burma' when he died.
