Default Wing Commander Bastard of No. 617 Squadron?

According to Wikipedia in May 1960 No. 617 Squadron's new Commanding officer was Wing Commander Bastard.

Is that true or has someone who didn't like him on the squadron at the time has done some Wiki altering?

It would appear not. See Wg Cdr L G A Bastard entry for 01 Sept 1961:

Thanks Simon. I'm sure I have not been the only one to do a double take at his name. Poor bloke (unless he lived up to that name). :)

    Hi Dave

I believe he was one-time CO of RAF Honington (near Bury St Edmunds, now RAF Regt). I may have met him on one occasion (when he opened the new RAFA club in Bury).

Probably pronounced as 'Bas-tard' (as with the old TV series)

    Cheers
    Brian
