    Default Liberator VIII KG964 of 224 Sqn XB-D or XB-G, lost Feb 26, 1945

From the family of a crew member via a researcher:

Lost over the Skagerrak, Norway. Missing from anti-submarine patrol.

My uncle R W Ponting F/O 144782 was the pilot on this flight and we have been researching for many years the cause of the loss. F/Sgt Gallipeau, a Canadian, was the only body washed up in Varberg, Sweden and buried there. I have recently been told “his body was riddled with bullets", possibly meaning they were shot down.

    Can anyone add more details?

    Thanks:

    Robert
