Default Looking for family/relatives in Australia re Memorial

Greetings once again from Winnipeg, Canada.
I'm trying to trace any family/relatives of P/O John Alan Bursill, Campbelltown,
NSW, Australia. He was killed in a Hudson bomber crash in Canada in August 1942.

Now, on the 66th anniversary(August 10, 2008, a special memorial service will take
place on the top of Dalhousie Mountain, in Nova Scotia. A specially designed memorial
    marker will be dedicated.

The organizing committee are anxious to have family attend. P/O Bursill is buried in
Nova Scotia and any surviving family will be interested to know that a special
graveside service took place last Remembrance Day. I have photos.

I'd be grateful for any assistance.I can be contacted at:

    Default Looking for relatives

    Floyd
Have you tried google for Campbelltown newspapers ? I've found UK relatives of KIA RAF crew still living in the same town.
    http://www.macarthurchronicle.com.au/ is one local paper.
I found a KIA RCAF crewman's family by a notice in a Canadian town's local paper.

Or try the Campbelltown local town council ?

I don't know if the Sydney Morning Herald has space for search notices. They may like to make a feature of the search http://www.smh.com.au/
I had a "write up " in it when searching for my RAAF father's Liberator in Italy.

I looked in Aus. white pages telephone directory on line but there are ,surprisingly, too many Bursills in different areas.A more thorough search might bring up some living in or near Campbelltown.

The Australian War Memorial may help ? http://www.awm.gov.au/

Or a notice in the RAAF magazine Wings.
    http://www.defence.gov.au/news/raafnews/editions/4714/aboutus.htm.
I have found that they don't respond to enquiries but notices have been published.Maybe better to ring ?

    Good luck
    Anne

    Hi All:

There seems to be a very active historical society out in Cambelltown:

    http://www.cahs.com.au/

They've apparently written an article on the Bursills, who seem to have been a prominent Cambelltown family. "William Bursill was transported to NSW in 1820 and became a
storekeeper and farmer. His son Samuel was a storekeeper who became Mayor Campbelltown.":

    http://thejungle.familytreeguide.com/showsource.php?sourceID=S59&tree=T1&PHPSESSID=14ad 382933cdeea4582839dadab76157

Seems like a good starting point.

Floyd - do you want me to contact them from my end (Campbelltown is in Southern Sydney) or do you want to contact them direct? They have email addys on their site for their President and Secretary (President Jenny Goodfellow - president@cahs.com.au Secretary secretary@cahs.com.au), and there's a phone number for their museuem / library.

Let me know what you think.

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Hi Floyd,

i've just messaged a chap on Genesreunited who appears to have this airman in his family tree. I've sent him a link to this thread, so hopefully he'll read it and get in touch if he is closely related.

    Cheers, Tom

    Default contacting families/Bursill on Australia

Thanks one and all for your information and suggestions. I've been given the
name and address of P/O John Alan Bursill's brother,
Professor Donald Bruce BURSILL. 46 Perseverance Road, Tea Tree Gully SA
509 (<Don.Bursill@sawater.sa.gov.au>). He was recently honoured by his home
town (Campbelltown) and by his country.
Unfortunately, my e-mail message to him keeps bouncing back Can someone
in his area check it out and call him, asking that he contact me?

    Thanks again.

    (Floyd)

Note: P/O Bursill's father, Samuel, was a storekeeper and mayor of Campbelltown.
