158 Squadron

Does anyone have the ORBS for the Above Squadron i am seeking details of Raids carried out from 25/6/42 to 31/12/43 .

seeking details of sorties flown by Victor Griffiths Hope later DFC , Flight Engineer flew his First Op on the 25/6/42 where they were hit by flak and were unable to drop Bombs due to Electrical wire being severed by Flak

Hi Phil,
Sorry I don't have the ORB's for 158 Sqn but I do have a copy of Chorley's book 'In Brave Company' signed by 41 members of the squadron. It has a list of all the ops flown by 158 Sqn which I would be happy to pass on to you.

Hi Phil
The 2 main points you can gain from Chorley's book mentioned above are that Hope's first op was the first Sqn op with the Halifax and was the 3rd 1000 plan raid,target Bremen.
Hope is not mentioned by name but the loss of electrics and failure to release the bombs is mentioned. Hope is also referred to by name in connection with an op he wasn't on!! His place had been taken by P/OG J Macrae. Hope was the regular F/E on that crew captained by W/Cdr T R Hope but not on this op. The a/c was shot down at Wancennes in Belgium whilst inbound to Nuremburg. Macrae and W/Cdr Hope survived as did P/O I Hirshbein. The date of this incident is not easy to work out
