    Default RCAF Casualties

    Munro,

See info posted here for information re- RCAF casualties and who is entitled to obtain their records.

    http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-909.007-e.html

No next-of-kin relationship is required to order the service file of a member of the RCAF who died on Active Service during WW2.

For those RCAF members who died post-war, the "twenty-year rule" applies. They must have died at least twenty years ago. If you can prove that you are "immediate next-of-kin" by providing a death certificate, etc. you may be able to obtain the file of these men.

    Default RCAF Records

    Write to this address:

    Personnel Records Unit,

    Library and Archives Canada,

    395 Wellington Street,

    Ottawa,

    ON K1A 0N3

Ask for extracts from the mens service records.

I have recieved abreviated files for up to 30 airmen to date. Mainly those lost during the war but also a few that they knew to have died at least 20 years ago.

Depending on the number of men you ask for you will get a bigger package or not. A great great service and goes a great way to helping remember these airmen and their deeds.

You may get the Form 765's and crash enquiry reports as well as cable messages, wopies of letters, a great many or a great few items depending on the man/woman in question.

try it. I'm next of kin to none of them, but lets not all write at once and swamp them.

    Hello Ken&Dennis,

thank you for your helpful info about RCAF rules. I think there will be problems with fact that Im not a canadian citizen or permanent resident. Can you tell me something about this and about payment details?
I asked about RAF rules to obtain personal records too. Is there similar conditions?

    TIA

I'm neither next of Kin, nor Canadian and I've not been charged for anything I got from the Canadian archives.

I've been sent up to 10 sheets for each requested airman, that is discribed as an abreviated service record and was supplied for free.

    Thats just my experience however.

    regards

Default RCAF records re Dennis Burke

    Dennis
Re your reply Munro's query page 13 of rafcommands---24th June '08.

Just to say I've just received a RCAF man's records from Ottawa & am very impressed .A 3 week wait but I received a letter, in the meantime, that my request was being dealt .And it's free !! Thanks for the address of the Personnel Records Division, 395 Wellington St. Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N4, Canada [for others who may need it ]

Reading about this flyer's character & academic ability it's so sad that he was killed less than a month after he joined 466 Sqdn RAAF.

    Munro,

    Re- RAF (WW2)

Under UK disclosure rules anyone can apply for basic service information. This mean full name, final rank, date and place of birth. Date of enlistment, decorations and final day of service !

    Default Disclosure

    Hello Mark,

has this worked for you in the past? Have you gotten this for airmen not related to you in any way? Would the men have died in the war in your examples.

I do have some airmens surnames names with serial numbers so is it to the Personel Management Agency I should address a request for name confirmation??

It would be nice to be able to get at least the mens full name.

Under what disclosure rules is this based if I was to quote them in correspondances to the RAF. (If you have a reference) I've only tried this route with the AHB regarding a crash and they would not confirm the names of the men on board for the privacy rules normally quoted.

It would be a great if they would.

    Dennis,

    Headquarters Air Command
    ACOS (Manning) 22e2b
    Royal Air Force
    Innsworth
    Gloucester
    GL3 1EZ

Were very helpful, of course Innsworth is now no longer RAF so I don't know the new address. If you can give them service numbers they can usually find the person you are after !

    All the best
