    Default 70 Sqn Wellington 'O', lost August 20th/21st 1943

    Hello everyoen

Can anyone ID this Wellington Mk. X, individual letter 'O', lost on a mission to Villa Literno on August 20/21 1943?

From the CWGC website, I think I have the crew as follows:

    F/Sgt John Francis HADY, 1176167
    Sgt George Oliver LEADBEATER, 1197216
    F/Lt Frank Louis MORTIMER, 655590
    P/O Bruce Henry Webb STEVENS, R.C.A.F. J/17860
    F/Sgt Alan Jeffrey WALFORD, 1182458

The ORB Form 540 has the following:
For this attack on Marshalling Yards north of Naples, 8 aircraft were briefed and took off. Aircraft N (F/S Stowers) returned early with Port engine failure and O (F/S Mortimer) is missing after issuing an S.O.S. about one hour after bombing, stating he was preparing to ditch.

    Many thanks

    Simon
