Default Wireless Operator training at Blackpool

Can anyone help on this one?

According to my father's RAF record, he was posted to No 10 (S) Reception Centre, Blackpool on 27 January 1941, then to 2 Signals School on 6 June, before a posting to No 2 Air Observer School, Millom, on 19 September. If he were posted to Yatesbury, he would have flown in a Proctor or Dominie, but his meticulously kept logbook lists no flights until he reaches Millom and doesn't include either aircraft in his list of types flown. Could it be that he was trained at a Blackpool outlier of No 2 Signals School, and was posted to Millom from there?

I vaguely recall a posting some years ago about signals training at Blackpool. Can anyone point me towards it?

    Thanks,

    David

My belief is that he only received ground instruction during his initial training, with his first flights being at the gunnery school.

If my memory serves me correctly, wireless operators at the time were trained as WOP (Ground) and then spent time at a station learning their trade in the Signals Section before starting their "aircrew" training. Your father obviously went straight to gunnery school after learning his ground trade (ie he did not go through the step of hands on training at a station). Out of interest, what was your father's posting after Millom?

[I have some notes on WOP training squirrelled away somewhere which I will look up tomorrow for you]
