    Default ARI and IFF equipment

Could anyone explain the abbreviations ARI and IFF in this context please:

"ARI and IFF equipment were detonated after aircraft landed; aircraft caught fire"

    Regards

    Hi Pete

They were fitted with explosive charges to prevent them falling into enemy hands in the event of coming down intact.

    Morning Pete,
IFF = Identification Friend or Foe
ARI = ARI R1618 fighter radar early warning device fitted to British bombers.
