Default 507619 William McBride Gemmell BEATON (46859)

    Hi Gents
I have been looking at a relation of mine - I saw his old uniform in the early 60's with Sqn Ldr rank and an MID laurel.
Looks like he was a Cpl in Dec 1939 and a Flt Lt in the Equipment branch by june 1944,but can anybody fill in any other details about length of service, non commissioned service etc - he may have been at Leuchars post war (but not sure) but by the early 60's he was working at the 'Radio Station' up on Hawklaw,Cupar (Hawklaw Y Station).
I am assuming he was regular RAF as Have not seen VR mentioned.

    Thanks rgds baz

There was a pretty wedding ceremony in the Station Hotel, Cupar, on Saturday, when Miss Josephine Kidd, third daughter of Mr and Mrs James Kidd, 41 Crossgate, Cupar, was married to Corporal William Beaton, R.A.F., son of Mrs Beaton, Welling,

    Baz,

You do not say whether he is alive or dead, but I assume the latter. If he passed away 25 or more years ago you can find the details for yourself by applying for his service record - details are at https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-pers...sonnel-records

You miss the point, Baz. The LG only provides dates of promotions at officer level, it does not give any indication of his career before then nor where he served throughout his career. A service record is far more informative than odd references in the LG.

    Hi Baz,

The RAF NCO number 507619 indicates he enlisted sometime in 1927
