    Default combat description "green quarter"

    Hello,

in a description of a combat between a Wellington and a Ju88 it is said that "when a Ju88 was sighted at about 600 yards on the green quarter, slightly below our aircraft" and in another case it is "Ju 88 was sighted at 200 yards at the green bow".

What is described by the words "green quarter" and "green bow" and what kind of other words are possible in this context?

    Can anybody help?

    Thanks.

    Best.

    Marcel

    Hello Marcel,
'Quarter' is from a nautical description meaning, roughly, to the side and rear. So using the cloock system that would be from 4 o'clock to 6 o'clock on the starboard and 8 o'clock to 6 o'clock on the port. 'Green' is starboard, 'Red' is port.

    Hope this helps,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

thanks for your reply. Although I have a licence to drive a motorboat I did not think of this ... :-)
