Default Sqdn Ldr Denis E.G. Ashill (RAFVR 115690) - 29/12/1942 - circumstance of death

Sqdn Ldr Denis Edward Guy Ashill, a chaplain attached to No. 15 Squadron, died on 29-12-1942. On a website his death is reported to be caused by an undefined "crash".
He's buried at Cambridge City Cemetery.

There are two more entries on CWGC for No.15 Squadron on 29-12-1942: Sgt (Flight Engineer) Francis Charles Jackson and LAC James Douglas Hunt. Gravestone of Jackson says Killed on Active Service. These men are buried in Luton and Edinburgh respectively.

Were these RAF men casualties of an air crash or was another cause in play?

    Thanks for any info.

    Regards,

    Leendert
