    Default Abbreviation on service record

I'm sure this has already been asked (possibly by me lol) but I can't find the answer using a search; what does a capital A in brackets signify after a unit e.g.

30 Wing (A) or 98 Sqn Iceland Detn Bks Reykjavik (A)

Also what does the abbreviation GDGS or possibly GSGS stand for as a unit?

    many thanks in advance

    Daz,
The annotation "(A)" after any named Unit/Location very often meant that the individual was not permanently Posted to that Unit/Location, but was only 'on Attachment' from an earlier Unit/Location, and expected to return to that Unit/Location after the period of Attachment had ceased!

If it's GDGS, then it could be Ground Defence Gunnery School.

many thanks, that fits perfectly although he was only there for 2 days before moving on to another Anti-Aircraft unit at Castle Kennedy. He then becomes an Air Gunner and gets a DFM for shooting down a JU88.

    thanks
