    Default E J Wrigglesworth, 214 Squadron

    Dear All,

I'm trying to find out the first and middle name of a member of my grandfathers crew while he was with 214 Squadron. The chap in question is E J Wrigglesworth, and I was wondering if any members might have a way of finding the names.

The 1939 register shows only one E J Wrigglesworth (Edmund J Wrigglesworth) but I seem to recall some kind of enlistment records that provide first names.

    Any help would be great,

    Johnnie

Air 78/175 has an Edmund Joseph Wrigglesworth, service No. 1378410.

There's a private family tree on ancestry.co.uk of an Edmund Joseph Wrigglesworth, born 1911, which has photos of him in R.A.F. service, some taken in Ontario, and there's a reference to 214 Sqn too. Unfortunately, as it's private, they're not available to view.

    Regards

    Simon

    Johnnie, Hi
    Probably,
    Edmund Joseph Wrigglesworth.
    b. 11 Nov 1911 (Reg Q1 1912 Sculcoates 9d 197, MMS Nolan).
    (You have his 1939 Registration).
    d. Q3 1971 aged 60 (Reg Holderness, Yorks, 2a 232).
[Somebody with the right bit of AIR 78 will check his Names, and give his Enlistment Number. From that you will be able to get his Service Record, which will tell you all his postings]

1378410 is in the block 1375001-1424800 allocated at either Euston or Penarth between Aug 1940 and Mar 1941 (from his Number I would say very near Aug 1940!)

Excellent stuff. Thank you very much for that.

I think he was also part of crew of BF445 when it crashed returning from Nuremburg on the 25th February 1943.

I'll need to check the ORB to confirm when I get home.

My grandfather was Ralph Reginald Shipley.

    Hi Johnnie

For BF445, BU-H, Chorley (BCL '43, P.49) lists Sgt R C Shipley, but not Wrigglesworth.
