Default Fishpond / Monica / Visual Monica (Halifax Installations)

I am trying to establish where the various units for Fishpond / Monica / Visual Monica were installed in the Halifax.

I am assuming that it was in the WOP Compartment (as he was responsible for monitoring) but I can find no photographs, diagrams or text which explains how they were fitted around the receiver / transmitter.

Was the layout of the receiver / transmitter changed so that it was in the same "stacked" position as the Lancaster, thereby allowing the units to be installed to the left hand side or was there another solution.

Any help on this matter (including any photos showing the equipment in situ) would be much appreciated

    Regards

    Pete

    Hello Pete,
I had a look at the TNA index and there is nothing for Monica installations specifically in Halifax aircraft (you probably already did this). However, there are many files that cover Monica development in the AVIA series which probably include installation in all the different aircraft. If you have a particular Mk in mind it will narrow it down.

There is one file concerning FISHPOND that stood out:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the feedback Bruce

Working on the basis that Fishpond was introduced in the last quarter of 1943, No. 35 Squadron would have had Halifax MKII and MKIII on strength. I don't know the development schedule of the equipment, nor when Monica / Visual Monica was introduced and its development schedule, so I can't answer your question at the moment

The squadron started to re-equip with the Lancaster in March 1944, and all Halifax were off strength by April 1944.

I will have a look at the TNA links later (I am under strict instructions to finish the decorating before the carpet fitters come on Friday!)

    Regards

    Pete
