Default Shot Down By Enemy Aircraft

On 4 Sep 43, a Master W9017 of the RAF College Cranwell FTS was shot down by an enemy intruder and two men were killed.

One man is F/O Leonard Frank CHAPMAN but the Form 1180 does not indicate the other person on board. However, using FREEBMD there is another person on the same page of the register and his name is: HAKKI AKARCAY age 21. I suspect this man to have been an overseas trainee, possibly a Turk. Although I'll dive into the Form 541 if necessary, does anybody know AKARCAY's origins re rank/nationality, please?

    Pavel,

Many thanks for the response. I had no idea the query had been posted and answered before and the posts give me some more names to be linked to aircraft accideents.

    Best wishes
