    Default Sgt Heycock WOP/AG

    Hi all,

I would like to ask for help with one little mystery.

    From the CWGC site:
    HEYCOCK, LESLIE
    Rank: Flight Sergeant
    Trade:Wireless Op./Air Gunner
    Service No: 529508
    Date of Death: 09/06/1942
    Age: 24
    405 (R.C.A.F.) Sqdn.

    According to the AIR 78:
    529508 Heycock Leslie George

According to the NCO Service Numbers list:
    505001 549999 10.25 Civilians

Was it possible that the part of prewar service numbers range was used also during the war?
As he was killed in age of 24, if he will enlist in 1925, he will be just 8 years old:-)

An finally - anyone has any information that this 529508 Heycock Leslie George was serving with No. 96 Sq as an Defiant AG during spring 1941?

    TIA

In May Heycock appears in the Form 541 as Sgt L Heycock on a couple of occasions, before then he is entered with no initial, and soon goes back to no initial. He last appears in the F541 in July 1941.

    Pavel,

Another source (Aces High Vol.2), provides alternate information to what you have provided:

Allocation of Non-Commissioned Personnel Service Numbers.

    505001-549999 - Aircrafthands - June 1925-March 1938.

    See:
    Aces High Volume 2.
    Shores,Christopher.
    London:Grub Street,1999.
    pp.14-15

It seems as if you're using the service number listing available on RAFCommands. Cross-check it with the above first, there are several discrepancies.

Hi chaps, thank you for your replies.

@ Alan - thanks for confirmation, much appreciated as I have check the ORB only till May 1941 and there he was without an initial

@ Colin - thank you for explanation, now it fits and I will amend my listing as indeed I am using the from this site
