Default Information sort about Flt Lieutenant Douglas Poole RAF

    Hello all,

Can anyone help me with the following please.

I am researching the above gentleman who is buried in Aldershot Military cemetery.

    Born 01 08 1916
    Died 24 5 2009

According to his headstone he is mentioned in dispatches 08 06 44 and 23 01 1968 but im not sure what that means or how I would access them.

If I can find his service number then I will apply for his service record

I've checked various databases with no joy

    I did find a 1968 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...t/887/data.pdf entry that said
Flight Lieutenant Douglas POOLE (517990), RoyalAir Force.

Not sure if this relates as he would have been 50 and only a Flt Lieutenant after 20 odd years service. I dont mean 'only' in a derogatory way. It just seems odd.

But if it is him then im guessing that 517990 is his service number?

If anyone can help me progress this, confirm , disprove my thinking or have access to any records or databases that might yield a piece or two of the jigsaw. Then that would be great.

    All help much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Best regards
    Dean

    Hello,

If this is your man, he was commissioned from Warrant Officer to Flying Officer 21 October 1954:

Dean, Your man was Mentioned in Despatches as a Warrant Officer in 1944 and as a Flight Lieutenant in 1968. The following are the links to the relevant London Gazette pages. You will have to scroll back several pages in each case to find out when, and in the latter case, where:
