    Hi Simon,

I have Wolfe as having been killed in the following incident:

    07.05.42
    Hawker Hurricane I P3116 59 O.T.U. Crosby on Eden
R3292 Sgt Vodra Terrel Wolfe (USA) RCAF pilot (K)
Aircraft was low flying when it dived into a cottage killing the occupant at Kingsfield House, Penton, Cumberland

The aircraft had earlier been damaged in a forced landing at Brundeanlaws Farm near Jedburgh.

    Dave and Jim

Many thanks indeed for the replies, your help is very much appreciated.

Jim - was P3116 with 59 O.T.U. in the Jedburgh forced landing? And do you have a pilot for that incident?

    Regards

    Hi Simon,

The earlier incident occurred on 25th November 1941 and the aircraft was with 59 OTU when it crash landed after an engine failure. I have the pilot as 1076916 Sgt Albert Dennis Mitchell but I will have to double check the crash card.

I have quite a list of 55, 56, 57 & 59 OTU losses if I can be any help just email.

    Just a quick additional question.

Is there anything more about the circumstances behind Vail's loss in Hurricane V7156? I see he's commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, so lost over the sea somewhere perhaps?

Ancestry.co.uk has access to the Canadian 'WWII Service Files of War Dead, 1939-1947', but there are no details in Vail's records about his loss, just "Missing, believed killed. Flying accident, training overseas, Hurricane."

    Regards

Ancestry confirms Wreay as the place of death for Herbert Way but if there was a copy of the F412 or F765c it was not copied by Ancestry, neither were the initial cypher messages.
