Default Belgian pilot M. Bouquen, Fighter Leaders School, Milfield, killed March 9th 1944

    Hello everyone

Can anyone add some details to this Belgian pilot, killed in Spitfire IIb P8549 when one of its bomb exploded over Goswick Ranges in Northumberland?

His Christian name, Service Number, or even possibly details of his previous service?

    Many thanks

    Regards

    Simon

    Hello ,

Are you sure Mr Marcel Bouquen was a belgian ? Strange enough there is no sign of him in the list of Belgians in de UK or in the list of those who lost their live in air opeartions during the War. So there for i assume he was French. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

    Roy and Alain

Thank you both for your replies.

Alain, no I wasn't sure - the information came from this site:

    http://www.milfield.org.uk/post-war.htm

"09.03.44 F/L M. Bouquen. Belg - Spitfire P8549. Killed, aircraft blew up while dive bombing at Goswick range."

From the info Roy posted I found a link to his entry in 'Aces High' and he is in fact Marcel Bouguen, born La Faon [sic - La Faou?] Finistere, 1920, so not Bouquen, and not Belgian! It's good to find the real ID of this pilot, so thank you Roy.

    Regards

    Hi Simon,

Just confirming what you already have. My records show:

    09.03.43
Supermarine Spitfire II P8549 Fighter Leaders School Acklington
Flt Lt Marcel Bouguen (FFAF) (K) - nom de guerre Marcel Montfort
Aircraft was destroyed when the bomb it was carrying exploded over the Goswick Ranges, Northumberland.

    Thanks Jim.

It's Bouguen, not Bouquen, is that right?

I think he may have been with 341 Squadron at the same time as Christian Martell, to add a local connection (Martell was killed in Spitfire MH388 at R.A.F. Ouston, Northumberland).
