Default Polish airman in RAF - died 1957 - help

Can anyone help with the following airman - W. J. CHMIELEWSKI (704864). promoted to Fg Off on 17 Jun 1957 and thought to have been killed in air crash, also in 57 whilst serving with 72 Sqn (though nothing found in 72 sqn ORB about this).

    Thanks

I'm sure someone else will add more, but he's listed in the London Gazette as Wincenty Joseph Chmielewski when his commission was annouced:

    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/.../4243/data.pdf

His death was registered in March 1958, at Biggleswade, but the National Probate Calendar has the following info:

Chmielewski, Wincenty Josef, of 33 Weston Way, Baldock, Hertfordshire, died 25 November 1957 at the R.A.F. Station Henlow, Bedfordshire.

    Regards

    Simon

Thanks Simon, had the gazette stuff but NPC info is useful. Hopefully someone can add information on how he died.

    Wincenty Jozef Chmielewski
    704864
    Born 21.03.1920
    Born at Radom
    Poland
Died March 1957 at RAF Henlow
    Buried in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England
    British Rank: F/Sgt (Wartime)
    Polish Rank: Sierzant
    Pilot
Commissioned as Pilot Officer 17th June 1954

Could he have been on board a 53 Squadron Blackburn Beverley C1 (XH117) that crashed at Sutton Wick, Berkshire, on 5th March 1957, killing quite a few of its passengers and some on the ground?

I have just seen a list of the dead from Beverley XH117. One of the pilots had a Polish name but it was not even close to Chmielowski. Col Bruggy's information also proves that it was not this flight as he died in November NOT March.

    Hello Col,

Yes that's the one - I thought he was Polish but obviously not! Now this post has grabbed my attention, I would also like to know how he (Chmielewski) died.

Nothing in Category 5 in Cummings that matches maybe an accident or other cause ?

    Hello Paul,

Yes, I think you are right. His place of death is listed as RAF Henlow so I think it must have been a (non-flying) accident or a death from natural causes.
