Daily Mirror August 9th, 1939 (amongst others)

"Aeroplane crashed at the corner of University-Road and Lancaster Road, Leicester. Loosening his straps, the pilot succeeded in freeing himself a few seconds before the ’plane—an Avro Cadet caught fire in the roadway. The Leicester Fire Brigade were quickly on the spot, but the ’plane was burned out. Sergeant Ford Rowney the pilot, who is in the R.A.F. Volunteer Reserve and lives at Coventry, was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary suffering from concussion and a lacerated nose.

Sgt Rowney (#745849) was killed 09/09/1941 in Hampden I AD854 while with 50 Sqn and is buried in Arley, Warwickshire
