    Default Mereton Airfield, Australia, WW2

I have an extract from a letter written by a RN officer in Australia during WW2, referring to a flight from Mereton. I'm unable to find any such airfield on modern maps, but wonder if this is the site of the current Brisbane Airport.

    TIA

    Hello,

Possibly - Moreton Bay (if location in Queensland), - Eagle Farm* and Strathpine, being a local airfields (WW2).

    * Adjacent to the current Brisbane International Airport.

Thank you, Col; I wondered if 'Mereton' was a mis-spelling of 'Moreton'. The only other clue is that 'Mereton' was 4.5 hours from 'Mascot' aerodrome, which I believe is Sydney. (Quote - "I leave ‘Mereton’ at 1300. The plane will arrive ‘Mascot’ aerodrome, Sydney, about 1730’.")

Could very well be Brisbane airport to Sydney. HMAS Moreton was along the Brisbane river so being a Navy type he was probably referring to the base in his letter.

The link below may add some information.

Ah, brilliant, Ken, that is definitely it. The extracts I'd been told about were clearly ambiguous so no thought had been given to the name referring to a navy base.

A belated welcome to the forum as well.
