Default Pilot of BZ753/S 53 squadron

I have a crew list for bz 753/S of 53 Squadron which failed to return on 4th October 1943,giving the Pilot as F/L John Rintoul. Subsequent searches have shown F/L Ernest Melville Charles Guest as bing the Pilot. Jock Manson in his book United in Effort has F/L Rintoul as Pilot and F/L Guest is listed with no duties shown. The site giving Guest as Pilot is not noted for its accuracy and I hope that someone can give a definative answer.

    Mike123,
Re: S/53 Sqdn., BZ753. The captain was F/Lt Rintoul. This is from the Squadron diary (AIR 27/505)...
"Oct 4th. 3 Operational sorties. F/Lt Rintoul and crew failed to return. F/Lt. Guest was attached to this crew for experience."

    Tony,
Many thanks for your reply. As I thought, the site naming Guest as pilot was wrong again. They also embellished the incident by saying that Melville (Guest) decided to fight rather than run for cloud cover. Number of enemy aircraft were also increased from 4 to 6.
    Your help much appreciated.
    regards MIke
