    Default Crew room

    Hi all,

I would like to ask for the exact meaning of this term in RAF terminology.

I suppose it was something like a dressing room where each airmen has his case with flying suit and in this room they dress after the briefing and before the start and also undress after the return.

    Is it correct?

    TIA

    Pavel, Hi,
If we are talking about aircrew then the "Crew-Room" could, indeed be for getting dressed for a flight (and undressed afterwards).
However, various Ground Sections (Servicing, Radio, etc, etc) also had their "Crew-Rooms". These would have some rather 'elderly' bits of furniture, a kettle (for tea/coffee), and may be even a fridge for cool drinks in the summer and to keep the milk from going sour!! Almost all of the equipment in these Ground Section Crew-Rooms would (very often) have been begged, borrowed, or even 'acquired' - by means we do not need to enquire too closely into!!!
They had another purpose. If you were invited into one of these Crew-Rooms and it was clean, tidy, and well looked-after, you could be fairly certain that the Section was well run.
