    Default Abbreviation help. "M.T.B. Patrol"

On 19 March 1944, sections from 234 Squadron, then at Bolt Head, take off on "M.T.B. Patrol" according to the ORB. Is it correct to understand this as Motor Torpedo Boat Patrols, i.e. defensive patrols looking for German E-boats (or Schellboote) following attacks from such vessels during previous months?

    Hello Mikkel,
I can't say for 100% certain but Motor Torpedo Boat fits. There was a lot of co-operation between the Coastal Forces and RAF along the south coast and I have seen several entries in Coastal Forces diaries about 'rendezvous with patrolling a/c' or 'relieve a/c'.

    Hope this helps,
