Default Sgt J-P Hanet 214 Sqn

    Morning,

Sgt Jean Pierre Hanet was KIA on 12.09.44 (HB767). In checking his first names and parents, that sounds to have some French or French speaking Belgian roots somewhere. Does anyone know any details about this family?

    Thanks

    Phil

Maybe. It is said that he was the son of Gaston and Florence Hanet but no age nor place are given.

There was another Hanet born in Penzance in 1922 (Henri M Hanet), this time the mother maiden name is shown as Rollison. He appears to have married in Leicestershire in 1947 (no apparent children born in England & Wales)

Hanet is a rare surname on England and Wales registers. Only one other marriage since 1916; one other birth since 1916; one birth prior to 1916 and no deaths.

Not much help, but shows the Hanet family were in the Penzance area for a couple of years. Maybe they were WW1 refugees.

One other interesting Hanet, a Royal Aero Club Aviatorsí Certificate for Georges Hanet, Birth Date:23 Aug 1904, Birth Location:Gand, Belgium. Certificate issued at Hanworth Club (National Flying Services) on 14 April 1930.

In case it's of interest, the ORB shows Hanet as having joined 214 Sqn from 31 Base on 18/7/1944 then flying as Special Operator on 6 ops (failed to return from the 6th) with 4 different pilots between 17/8 and 12/9/1944.
