Default serials and code of 14 OTU a/c

    Hi,

in the ORB of 14 OTU of 31.7./1.8.1942 the serials and codes of the aircraft are mentioned in a different way than usual. Here is an example:

    HAMPDEN
    312 'S3'

It seems that the letter before the 312 has not been written down and I think that the S is the individual code of the a/c in the squadron. Does the 3 stand for the meaning that this a/c was the third one in this squadron which got the code 'S' or was 'S3' really painted on the a/c?

    Best.

    Hi Marcel

In 'Flying Units of the RAF' by Alan Lake he shows L6070 as being coded GL-A2 so S3 may well be the code for AE312.

I can't help you with your query, however my father was with 14 OTU from February 1941 to June 1941. I am curious to know if you have the orbs for that period of time? Details of my father's time at 14 OTU can be seen here, https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/oper...training-unit/
Researching my father's time with 50 Squadron, 97 Squadron, Dulug Luft, Stalag Luft VI, Stalag 357 and Stalag Luft III.

    Hi,

    thanks Malcolm for you answer.

David, I am sorry but I only have the ORB of the specific raid in 1942.

    Best.
