Wellington Mk XIII HZ656 (2H) Crash landing at RAF Davidstow Moor

On 12th August 1943 a Wellington Mk XIII Serial HZ656 Squadron Code 2H landed with hydraulic problems and no flaps at RAF Davidstow Moor. The crew were unhurt but there was extensive damage to the aircraft when it overshot the runway. Can anyone please tell me the fate of this aircraft? Was it repaired or written off? And, if it was repaired, were those repairs carried out on site? Many thanks.

accordig to the A-B RAF Serials book, HZ656 was struck of charge on 6. 5. 1946, so we have a good reasons to believe it has been repaired.
For more details I am afraid you have to check the Accident Record Card (AM Form 1180) at RAF Museum Hendon.

The most important thing is that it was not struck off after this accident, So I will not include it in my list of losses - but I will check the accident record card to discover where it went, because it was not returned to 304 Squadron.

I am glad I can help.
Yes I know the same thing from our 311 Sq. Quite often when a Wellington has been seriously damaged that it was taken for repair to the works or to the factory for repair, it took several months before it was reparied and another aircraft has been allotted meanwhile as a replacemnt.
