    Default PoW Identification Help

    Hi all,

    I don not have access to my files at the moment and would like some assistance trying to identify the following airman. I have scant details other than the information below, all were PoW's;

    Group Captain "Ginger" Weir
F/Lt Jan Penz (Polish fighter pilot?)
    Fraser Stooks
    Charles de Moulin
    Dan Arct
    "Woody" Woodhatch

Any help would be very welcome.

    Hello

I confirm Dave's détails about Weir. In his PoW questionnaire he wrote he was captured near Lingen 22/23 november 1944. He was in Oberursel from 25 November to 22 December 1944, then in Barth until release. He was O.C. R.A.F. Fulbeck.

F/L Jan Adam PENTZ was indeed a Polish pilot, No. 317 Squadron, shot down and captured in northern France (I'd be interested in a better location than this...) on 28 May 1944. He was in Barth too.

S/L Charles Joseph Guy DEMOULIN was a Belgian pilot. At the time he was shot down, he was the C.O. of No. 609 (WR) Squadron, following the loss of S/L T.Y. WALLACE one month before. Captured near Arnhem on 5 December 1944. Wounded, he was held in Hospital from where he escaped and was recaught on 10 December. Arrived in Barth on 10 January. He published his memoirs "firebirds".

Can't help with the PoW questionnaires of the others.

    Steve,

"Dan" Arct, undoubtedly, P-1090 S/L Bohdan Stanislaw ARCT PAF.

    http://listakrzystka.pl/en/?p=4780

S/L Arct baled out of No.316 Sqn Mustang III FB351, south of Nijmegen, on 6 September, 1944, his aircraft having suffered engine failure. You can read more about Arct's activities during his loss, capture and incarceration in Stalag Luft 1, in his humorous POW journal:

Prisoner of War My Secret Journal - Stalag Luft 1, Germany 1944-45.
    Arct, B. Squadron Leader
    Exeter:Webb & Bower,1988.
(Demoulin, Pentz, Stooks & Weir are mentioned [briefly], in Arct's journal).

"Fraser Stooks" - 123613 F/L Gerald Fraser STOOKS RAFVR - Forced down in No.181 Sqn Typhoon Ib MN994, by flak or engine failure, near Venlo, on 8 September, 1944.
