Default No. 35 Squadron "Overseas Posting" February 1946

In January 1946, No 35 Squadron prepared for "posting overseas the following month". The posting was subsequently cancelled in February but I am struggling to find any reference to where they were being sent.

Tiger Force had been stood down, so it can't have been as part of that force, but I have noted that a couple of months later the plans for Operation Sunbronze were being talked about, so I am wondering if the squadron was going to be posted to the Med. to trial "Sunbronze".

Can anyone enlighten me on this matter?

    Regards

    Pete

    Pete,
Was not "Sunbronze" a deployment/APC to/in the Med? I don't think that Exercise started until 1947?
Any Operation to/in the Med in 1946 might well have been as a result of what some know as the Greek Civil War, but which was - in effect - the start of the Cold War (before Churchill's Iron Curtain came down!)?
The politics of Greece (and the Communist bloc in general) at the time were very complex - you will not be surprised to learn!!

    Thanks for the feedback.

The only reason I mentioned Sunbronze was that Graveley's ORB shows the following for May 1946 "Notification has been received that an operation order for a new exercise “Sunbronze” was being compiled and would be issued in due course". I was wondering if they had wanted the squadron to trial it in February 1946 before issuing the full order (It was just a wild guess really!)

I guess we need to see if there were plans for other squadrons to be posted overseas in February 1946 (which were subsequently cancelled)

Whilst doing some research today, I came across the answer to my question about the squadron's post war "overseas" posting, so I thought I would record it on here for completeness.

The squadron was due to be posted to Egypt, but the order was cancelled for political reasons. [Source: "Pathfinder Force Navigator" by Peter D. Saville]
